Users with older client version (2.x and older) may experience an issue where the client suggests and offers download and update to a newer version but after a restart reappears in the old version and starts the same process again. The problem is known to Rocket.Chat. In the meantime a simple solution is to manually download and install the client in the most recent version. As part of the current COVID-19 crisis, we are currently evaluating possible e-learning scenarios together with the e-learning service team of the University of Göttingen .
We are currently focussing on BigBlueButton an open source video conferencing tool that, in addition to conventional video conference functions such as screen sharing and chat, is also suitable for e-learning scenarios. The tool is based on HTML5, runs in the browser and does not require any software installation.
More….In order to simplify the use of alternative video conferencing services, we have implemented a connector between the Cisco WebEx service and our single sign-on solution. This allows employees and students of the University of Göttingen as well as employees of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) to login to Cisco WebEx with the credentials of their staff or student account in order to create meetings. To do so, you need to activate your account which involves transmission of account data (e-mail address, first and last name) to Cisco. This requires your consent. You can find more information about Cisco WebEx and how to activate your account in our online documentation . Please note that Cisco WebEx is an external cloud solution and not operated by us. Therefore, this service is not appropriate for sensitive or personal data. Please consult your data protection officer if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Due to the current pandemic situation, the use of videoconferencing tools for mobile working is expected to increase significantly in the coming days and weeks. We are therefore currently working intensively on the provision of alternative services in order to support our users as best we can with the current IT challenges. For this purpose, we have created a website that is continuously updated and where we will provide you with initial concrete information on usable videoconferencing tools in the course of the day.
Due to the current pandemic situation, a strong increase in the use of VPN and videoconferencing is expected in the coming days and weeks, and we are currently working intensively on alternative offers. In the area of videoconferencing, we are currently evaluating Cisco WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and JITSI. As a soon as there are any news in this area as well as in VPN, we will inform you about it as soon as possible.

From now on users whose GWDG account has been blocked due to a password change that was not made in time but is regularly necessary for security reasons, have a simple option to carry out this change in self-service via the GWDG customer portal https://www.gwdg.de . The login to the customer portal (and only there) is now possible even after password expiration with the expired password, so that there the password itself can be changed to be able to work again.

Particularly within the last weeks so called phishing e-mails were repeatedly sent to many of our users. Such e-mails are sent by attackers which try to mislead recipients by warnings, threats or rewards to follow links included in the actual e-mail text and to log in with GWDG user name and password on target web-pages right after that.

Currently the File Service of the GWDG is down. We are working intensely on the rectification. We apologize for any inconveniences.
Update #1: The manufacturer is on it. At that time, a necessary Filesystem check is running. The current disruption is estimated for about an hour.
Update #2: The disruption in the domain of the “Vorklinik” (preclinical domain) is fixed.
